A Poem

Take the Donegal roads, the winding Glengesh Pass, Barnesmore Gap, Lackagh Bridge, the Blue Stack mountains, Errigal, Muckish, and the whole eagle's view of Glenveagh Castle.

Take the white horses cresting in Bundoran, rise and fall of surfboards, the way a rainbow can span from Sligo to Donegal over the wide sweep of Rossnowlagh's sands. Watch the sun set.

Take the trawlers in Killybegs, Burtonport, the quiet heartbeat of the islands, Tory, Gola, Arranmore. The salmon leaping in the River Finn, glories of Ballymastocker, Sheephaven, Malin Head.

Take the spread of lights in a Letterkenny night, the amber glow from Buncrana. History's echoes from the fort walls of Grianan of Aileach, Doe Castle, Beltany Stone Circle, Fanad lighthouse.

Take Glencolmcille tapestries, Kilcar Aran knits, the pottery, jewellery, paints and crafts. Take the music, songs, the weft and warp of accents from Ballyshannon through the Rosses to Moville.

Take it all, in one deep breath, feel your spirits renewed with a quenching and a fresh feeding. Take in all of Donegal and keep it near to you.
