Non Stop Now Part 2

Photo took and cuppa had, it was time to start our climb. I was still feeling horrible but as we all know that can disappear when you get moving. The walk started with the long lane up to the ugly Cronalaght Wind Farm and finally the open hillside. When we got there the view in front of us was nothing special but to our right the view of Muckish and Errigal and everything in between was breathtaking. We stood agog for a while transfixed on the majestic Errigal Mountain before setting off again. Taobh an Leithid was about a kilometre ahead of us to our left and it might as well have been 10 miles. My lethargy was still there and the walk over and through heather and peat hags to the top felt never ending. When I got there I already knew I wasn’t going to do the other hill. Sometimes you just have to accept these things and know when to bow out. When I told Cecil his experience made him accept my decision without question. He knew pushing on when you are not feeling up to it is when mistakes can happen. He also knew if I overdone it I could be laid up for weeks so it was definitely the right thing to do. Now that the decision was made we spent half an hour on the mountain admiring the views. We had the coast at Bunbeg to our left where Mark was, Bloody Foreland, Magheraroarty Strand and Tory Island ahead of us and the whole Derryveagh Mountain range to our right. The haze meant it wasn’t crystal clear but you could make out everything and the light was best where you would want it to be, on the mountains…
